Rangers resume managerial interviews with Red Sox coach

The first of five candidates from outside the Texas Rangers organization interviewed Tuesday for the vacant manager’s job, and general manager Jon Daniels could have the remaining interviews finished by the end of the week.

Boston Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo spent the day at Globe Life Park in Arlington fielding questions from Rangers officials. Pittsburgh bench coach Jeff Banister; Cleveland bullpen coach Kevin Cash; Chicago White Sox third-base coach Joe McEwing; and Alex Cora, manager and GM of Caguas Criollos of the Puerto Rican Winter League, also will interview.

Tim Bogar, who finished the season as the Rangers’ interim manager, will also be interviewed. Daniels hopes to pick a full-time replacement for Ron Washington before the World Series, which begins Oct. 21.

Bogar is considered the frontrunner after going 14-8 after Washington resigned unexpectedly Sept. 5. Pitching coach Mike Maddux and Triple A manager Steve Buechele interviewed Sept. 30.

Lovullo has been Boston’s bench coach for the past two seasons under manager John Farrell and was the first-base coach in Toronto in 2011 and 2012 before Farrell was traded to Boston.

Lovullo, former big-league utility man, also will interview with Minnesota, which fired Ron Gardenhire on Sept. 29.
