Derek Holland needed little time to describe his feelings about getting to spring training Saturday.
“I was like a little kid when I came in here,” Holland said. “I was very excited, happy, just waiting to see some of these guys.”
Holland has been in Texas most of the spring, rehabbing his left knee after undergoing microfracture surgery in January. Holland injured his knee in a freak accident, falling down his stairs while playing with his dog. He’s expected to miss the first half of the season, but is beginning to start baseball activities.
Holland played catch for the first time Saturday afternoon and is walking around with no limitations.

“I’m doing pretty much everything but running,” he said. “I’m squatting, doing step ups, balance. I’m kind of getting back into the swing of things.”
