Texas Rangers reportedly bringing back key pitcher from 2023 World Series team
The Texas Rangers are signing pitcher Jordan Montgomery, a key member of their 2023 World Series championship team, according to multiple reports.
The South Carolina native played part of that one season for the Rangers after being acquired in a trade from the St. Louis Cardinals.
Montgomery pitched well during the Rangers’ title run, going 3-1 with a 2.90 ERA in six postseason appearances, including winning Games 1 and 7 against the Houston Astros in the AL Championship Series.
That offseason, Montgomery signed with the Arizona Diamondback on a one-year, $25 million contract and went 8-7 with a 6.23 ERA.
Montgomery should add more depth to an already formidable Rangers starting rotation, though he will not be available at season’s start as he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery that caused him to miss all of last year.
The Rangers head into the upcoming MLB season hoping to make it back to the playoffs for the first time since winning the World Series in 2023 and hope some familiar faces can help.
