UTA baseball rallies in eighth inning to ease past Texas State

UT Arlington scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning and held on to beat Texas State 7-6 in Sun Belt Conference baseball on Thursday night.

In a see-saw battle, the Mavericks (23-28, 14-14 Sun Belt) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning.

Texas State tied it in the bottom of the fourth. UTA added single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to take a 4-2 lead. The Bobcats took a 5-4 lead in the seventh.

Then the Mavericks rallied with three runs in the eighth and held on.

Brady Cox had a run-scoring single in the eighth and Matt McLean a sacrifice fly.

Levi Scott knocked in four runs, two coming on a home run in the fourth. He had RBIs on ground ball outs in the fifth and seventh innings.

Travis Sibley went 4 for 5 for the Mavericks. Darien McLemore and RJ Williams each had two hits.
