Baylor grad Jimmy Walker comfortable at “very classic” Colonial course

Jimmy Walker will be making only his third Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial appearance this week, but he’s certainly comfortable on the course. He made both cuts in his previous starts, and he tied for 10th last year.

Colonial’s style reminds the Baylor graduate of two course he’s frequented often.

“It’s got a very classic look to it,” Walker said Tuesday. “Kind of tree lined, and it reminds me of a course I play at home a little bit, Oak Hills in San Antonio. Reminds me of a course I played in college in Waco at Ridgewood Country Club. So it’s kind of got that whole feel to it, not this giant, expansive golf course that spreads out over what seems like thousands and thousands of acres.”

Walker has two wins this year — at the Sony Open in Hawaii and the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio — and he’s ranked second behind Jordan Spieth in the FedEx Cup standings.

Walker tees off Thursday at 12:45 p.m. with James Hahn and Brandt Snedeker.
