Brock softball falls in 3A state semifinals

For the second-straight season, Brock played in the Class 3A state tournament. However, for the second-straight time, the Eagles were knocked out of the semifinals.

Santa Gertrudis Academy scored six times in the third inning to go on and beat Brock 8-2 on Wednesday at Red and Charline McCombs Field at the University of Texas.

The Lions (39-2) advance to Thursday’s 6 p.m state final.

Alyssa Gonzalez opened the bottom of the first with a leadoff single and scored two batters later with a fielder’s choice from Jackie De Los Santos.

After Brock recorded the first two outs of the third inning, the Lions scored six times to extend the lead to 7-0.

The Lions had three-straight RBI doubles from Ali Salinas, Alyssa Robles and Gonzalez, and Arianna Lopez added an RBI single to left field.

Santa Gertrudis starting pitcher Saidi Castillo allowed no hits - with two walks - through four innings. She had a no hitter going for 4 1/3 innings until Brock first baseman Bailey Wagner singled to center in the fifth.

The Eagles (33-8) finally got across the plate with an RBI double from Anarenee Beyer in the sixth. Two batters later, Beyer scored with an RBI double from Mattye Tyler.
