Southlake Carroll held its annual spring football game on Wednesday at Dragon Stadium and the Dragons scored three touchdowns. New coach Riley Dodge, who was hired in March, was pleased with the overall results. Dodge returns to Carroll after he led the Dragons to a state title in 2006 while playing quarterback.

Top returning players: 2019 QB Will Bowers (3,400 total yards, 38 TD), 2019 RB T.J. McDaniel (1,862 rush, 23 TD), 2019 LB Michael Parrish (89 tackles, 14 for loss, 5 sacks, 9 deflections), 2020 OT Andrej Karic, 2020 WR/LB Preston Forney (4 rec TD), 2020 CB/WR R.J. Mickens (9 rec TD, 99 tackles, 2 INT, 13 deflections), 2020 LB Graham Faloona (80 tackles, 7 for loss, 2 sacks).
What we saw: Bowers found McDaniel on a half-back slant and the 3-star prospect broke three tackles en route to a 15-yard touchdown. The Dragons also scored twice more on touchdown passes — one coming from 75 yards out.
What Coach Dodge said: “Defense as a whole stood out. The effort to the football was there.”
“It’s a daily process. You have to show these kids how invested you are.”
“It’s going to be a tough district. There’s no week off and we’re going to get everyone’s best shot and I’m very excited about it.”
What Bowers said: “Great time to come out and compete and show out for the community. We really learned a lot this spring.”
“I’m improving on decision making and being more accurate with the ball at times.”
