Trailing 14-0 in the second quarter, Arlington Lamar used its passing attack to claw back into the contest, but the South Grand Prairie Warriors held off the Vikings’ comeback attempt. After receiver Jaylen Jones caught a Jack Dawson 15-yard touchdown pass with 7:44 left in the game to cut Lamar’s deficit to 21-17, the Vikings couldn’t take advantage after stopping three SGP drives late in the game and the score was final.
Key players: Lamar quarterback Dawson completed 19-of-35 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns, as Vikings receiver Trevon West caught one of the scoring passes and finished with 98 yards receiving. Warriors quarterback Nakia Brown passed for 105 yards and a touchdown, running for another score. Running back Keodrick Young provided a highlight with a 56-yard touchdown run.
Key stat: After taking a 21-3 lead midway through the third quarter, South Grand Prairie couldn’t convert a first down on two of its next three possessions, while Lamar scored in two of its next three to make it a game.
