Burleson Centennial blocks late field goal try to preserve win over Birdville

Burleson Centennial’s Kelton Tezeno blocked Birdville’s 35-yard field goal attempt with 23 seconds left to preserve a 14-13 win Friday against the Hawks at the Birdville ISD Fine Arts/Athletics Complex. The Spartans also blocked a point-after kick in the second half.

Key players: Centennial quarterbacks Kyle Burns and Hunter Prescher each engineered a scoring drive. Prescher hit Wellington Bridges for a 5-yard score to tie the game at 7-7, and Burns scored from a yard out for the 14-13 lead. Birdville took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 28-yard pass from Skylar Noble to Dylan Sterling. In the third quarter Noble scored on a 1-yard run for a 13-7 Birdville lead.

Key stat: Burns led Centennial in rushing with 86 yards on 13 carries. Birdville’s Damian Morrell carried 28 times for 106 yards. The Hawks have lost twice by one point.

Records: Burleson Centennial 1-1, Birdville 0-2.
