Mansfield standout receiver’s dazzling catches overcome state-ranked Cedar Hill

Mansfield 38, Cedar Hill 21

Jackson Gleeson beat his defender twice in the first half for long touchdowns. His two catches for 103 yards and two scores paced the Tigers to a nondistrict victory against the Longhorns on Friday night at R.L. Anderson Stadium.

In addition to Gleeson’s long scores, Mansfield turned a first-quarter blocked punt and two third-quarter fumbles into 17 points. The Tigers led by 25 after three quarters.

Standout Tigers defensive back Cam’Ron Jones was injured and left the field on a stretcher.

Key players: Mansfield quarterback Shawn Hartsfield passed for 166 yards and two scores, and running back K.J. Hawkins rushed for 71 yards and two touchdowns for Mansfield, which had 397 yards of offense. Cedar Hill quarterback Shayne Lawrence passed for a touchdown and rushed for a score.

Key stat: Gleeson averaged 51.5 yards per reception for the Tigers.

Records: Cedar Hill, 0-2, Mansfield, 2-0.
