Much like the happy glow that college basketball fans get when March Madness rolls around, that same Christmas-like anticipation is beginning to take hold for Texas high school football fans.

Welcome to the Lone Star state’s high school football version of the Final Four, where UIL semifinalists in each of the 10 playoff brackets continue their quest for state championships that await next week at AT&T Stadium.

In last week’s state quarterfinals, there were some significant upsets — three-loss Temple beat undefeated Manvel; Mesquite Poteet (also three losses) got by state-ranked Lancaster; and defending champs Brock, Waco La Vega and Houston North Shore all went down.

So really, what can top that when the penultimate round begins on Friday?
