Five TDs by South Oak Cliff back sends Centennial home

Dallas South Oak Cliff turned to its running game to eat the clock and keep the ball away from Burleson Centennial’s triple-option attack. Bears running back Jordan Ray made the most of his chances, running for five touchdowns to down the Spartans 45-24 Friday in a Class 5A Division II Region II area round playoff game at the Midlothian ISD Multi-Purpose Stadium.

Key players: Ray scored on runs of 3, 11, 6, 33 and 33 yards. Ray finished the game with 175 yards on 29 attempts. Bears quarterback Traylon Hicks completed 12 of 24 passes for 151 yards. Marcus Reese caught five passes for 76 yards. Centennial slot back Kelton Tezeno carried eight times for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Spartans fullback Darrell Williams scored on the first play of the game on an 84-yard run. He ended the game with 11 carries for 142 yards.

Key stat: The Bears will take on Mesquite Poteet next weekend in the third playoff round. Centennial’s 10 wins are the most by the program in its five-year varsity history.
