Running back Zach Wolf rolled up 160 yards rushing and three touchdowns in the Mustangs’ 49-34 win over Colleyville Heritage. Wolf’s 2-yard run helped Grapevine establish a big lead going into the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Mason Holmes hooked up with Reed Thompson on a 23-yard touchdown pass to kick off a 44-13 rout of Trophy Club Nelson. It was the Dragons’ seventh straight win after a season-opening loss.
While the Panthers’ comeback attempt fell short, a 73-yard scoring pass from quarterback Cam Roane to running back Mario Ortiz sparked a late 17-point rally. Ortiz had 121 yards rushing and 76 receiving yards with three touchdowns. Roane completed 20 passes for 413 yards and three touchdowns.
Sophomore safety Jalen Catalon unloaded a bone-jarring hit on Lake Ridge running back Darrius Lee on Friday night. The Broncos won the turnover battle 3-1 thanks to hard hits like that one and held on for a 49-39 win over the Eagles.
Linebacker Nick Schifftner got the pass deflection and the interception in the Chargers’ 49-28 win over Keller Fossil Ridge. Central gave up 296 yards and forced six turnovers.
Defensive back Tauvion Leonard came up big with a late interception that set up the game-winning touchdown in Bowie’s improbable, 26-24 come-from-behind win over Arlington Lamar. The Volunteers scored 26 unanswered points. On top of his pick, Leonard forced a fumble as well.
Running back Kennedy Brooks blistered Arlington Sam Houston for 299 yards and three touchdowns as Mansfield won 37-20. His late 74-yard scoring run was the deciding factor.
