Fast start propels Southlake Carroll over Trophy Club Nelson

Audricke Gaines ran for 140 yards and two first-half touchdowns and Southlake Carroll, ranked No. 9 in The Associated Press state poll, had 500 yards of total offense in a 44-13 victory over Trophy Club Nelson in a District 5-6A game Friday at Dragon Stadium. Mason Holmes threw for 169 yards and two scores, all in the first half, and the Dragons jumped out to a 24-0 lead despite two turnovers.

Key players: Robert Barnes caught five passes for 40 yards, before leaving the game with an injury. Pascal Mondombo caught six passes for 120 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown.

Key stat: Carroll had 283 total yards in the first half and held Nelson to 7 yards rushing. Five players had TDs for Carroll.
