Defense, running game pace Bell

Using a tenacious defense and a strong running game, Hurst L.D. Bell spoiled the Fighting Farmers’ homecoming with a 38-7 victory Friday night at Max Goldsmith Stadium. Bell led 17-0 at halftime by limiting Lewisville to five first downs and 89 yards.

Key players: Bell’s Ivan Traylor gained 163 yards on 20 carries and Terry Pace had 62 yards on 12 carries with a 50-yard touchdown. Lewisville running back Kwame Mikels had 45 yards on 17 carries.

Key stat: Bell held Lewisville to 24 yards passing. Lewisville was penalized 10 times for 105 yards, including one that erased a 70-yard touchdown pass. The Farmers also lost two fumbles.

Records: L.D. Bell 3-5, 1-4 in District 5 6-A; Lewisville 3-5, 1- 4.
