The rushing tandem of Courtney Cravin and Michael Franklin combined for 176 yards rushing and two touchdowns to lead Fort Worth Wyatt over Western Hills 21-12 in a penalty-marred game at Clark Stadium.
Key players: Wyatt did not score until its fourth possession with 3:38 left in the first half when Franklin threw to Deandre Hickerson in the flats and the receiver fought his way down the sideline and into the end zone for a 7-yard touchdown. Adrain Carillo’s extra point gave the Chaparrals the lead for good, 7-6. Western Hills quarterback Zack Smothermon was injured on the game’s first play and did not return.
Key stats: Western Hills drove 57 yards in two plays for its first touchdown on the game’s opening possession. Aside from that drive and a fourth-quarter 66-yard touchdown by Tyler Morgan, the Cougars were held to only 92 yards of offense. The teams combined for 26 penalties for 235 yards.
