Saginaw Boswell escapes with win over Brewer

Saginaw Boswell came alive in the second half to thwart a White Settlement Brewer upset bid and win 26-21 Friday in a District 6-5A game at Pioneer Stadium.

The Pioneers scored twice in the third quarter to erase a 14-6 Brewer halftime lead. The two drives were both capped by Isaiah Mayfield’s touchdown catches. Brewer came back to take the lead on a Jarrett Morse TD run, 21-20.

Boswell started a go-ahead drive with just over four minutes to go, and Damon Williams raced in from 21 yards out. The 2-point try failed, but Boswell held for the victory.

Key players: Williams stepped up for Boswell and finished with 187 yards rushing, mostly in the second half. Curtis Taylor kept the Pioneers’ defense on its heels most of the night as he finished with 85 yards and a score. Mayfield’s seven catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns were the difference for Boswell.

Records: Brewer 1-5, 0-3; Boswell, 4-2, 3-0
