Azle got close Tuesday night against Trophy Club Nelson, but never close enough.
The Bobcats staved off a Hornets rally, winning 37-29 in a District 5-4A game at Azle High School.
Nelson (19-5, 6-2) led Azle 28-4 at one point in the first half before a third-quarter drought allowed the Hornets to creep back into the game and head into the fourth quarter down 31-20. Azle (13-8, 5-3) would get within six points with less than a minute left, but its shots from that point wouldn’t fall.
The victory pushed Nelson past Azle in the district standings. The Bobcats beat the Hornets 47-43 on Dec. 11.
