Lake Ridge goes extras to beat Weatherford

Mansfield Lake Ridge tied it with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning and then scored on a walk-off error in the eighth to beat Weatherford 2-1 in a District 3-6A game on Tuesday night at Lake Ridge High School. Weatherford (17-9 overall, 5-2 district) scored its only run of the game in the top of the fifth when Brayden Lara led off with a walk, went to second on a ground out, then scored on an rbi single from Logan Chaix.

Kangaroo starting pitcher Cutter Kennedy was working on a 2-hit shutout into the seventh against the district-leading Eagles, but gave up a lead-off double to Ivan Vargas. With one out, Jeremiah Thomas hit a hard grounder to first that resulted in a Weatherford error, scoring courtesy runner Calum Jones that tied the game at 1-1. Lake Ridge (16-7-2, 6-1) walked it off in the bottom of the eighth when Jayde Austin turned a fly ball to left into a Little League home run. Austin led off the inning with a fly to left field that was misplayed by Weatherford into a two-base error. Another error by the pitch on the play allowed Austin to come around to score to end the game.

Joshua takes down Centennial

Tre Everett had a triple and 3 runs batted in to lead Joshua past Burleson Centennial 6-4 in a District 8-5A contest on Tuesday night at Joshua High School. Joshua (17-6-1 overall, 8-1 district) pulls into a second place tie with the Spartans in 8-5A while handing Centennial (15-8, 8-1) its first district loss. Everett singled in Kallin Whisenant to give Joshua a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning and swatted a 2-run triple in the sixth that gave the Owls a 5-4 lead.

Everett scored 1 batter later on a fielder’s choice by Nathaniel Chittum. The Owls added 2 runs in the third on an RBI triple from Alek Aguirre and an RBI single by Hunter Strebeck. All 9 batters came up in the Centennial fourth inning as the Spartans tied the game 3-3. Centennial loaded the bases with 2 singles and an error before the Owls got the next 2 batters to strike out. A wild pitch pulled Centennial within 3-1 and then back-to-back RBI walks tied the game. Fischer Stalberger’s lead-off home run in the sixth gave the Spartans a 4-3 lead.
