Girls HS Basketball Fast Break: Flower Mound stuns No. 2 North Crowley; more

Flower Mound stuns No. 2 North Crowley
Flower Mound got 24 points from star guard Maci Pringle as the Jaguars took advantage of poor shooting by North Crowley in a 47-39 win on Friday in the Class 6A Division I Region 1 Final at the Arlington ISD Athletics Center.
Unranked Flower Mound (28-8) will advance to the state semifinals for only the second time in program history (2015) and will face another upset winner in Cedar Hill (29-10) early next week. Cedar Hill defeated No. 21 Duncanville 41-36 on Friday after Duncanville had taken both games in district play.
North Crowley (30-5), No. 2 in the state in Class 6A according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, has never been to the state semifinals. The Panthers lost to Plano East in the regional final last season after defeating Flower Mound in the regional semifinals.
The game was intense from the start and though out the whole contest as the teams battled back and forth early. North Crowley took an 11-10 lead after one quarter, but Flower Mound opened the second period with a 7-0 run capped by a Lorelei Ebert three pointer to go up 17-11 with 5:51 left before halftime.
The Panthers countered later in the second quarter with a 9-2 run of their own with Eden Johnson giving North Crowley a 22-21 lead with 1:34 before the intermission. Pringle gave the lead back to Flower Mound with a basket with 38 seconds left in the second quarter, a lead the Jaguars would never give up.
A Pringle lay in pushed the lead to nine points, 35-26, with 2:04 left in the third quarter. In addition to 24 points, Pringle had 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 6 steals and 4 blocked shots.
Jamari Milton, who led North Crowley with 12 points, cut the lead to 39-37 with a basket with 3:49 left in the game, but Pringle took over from there. Pringle scored all 11 points for the Jaguars in the fourth quarter and went on an 8-2 run from that point to close out the game.
North Crowley shot a woeful 27.5% (16 of 58) from the floor, including 3 of 16 (19%) from beyond the arc. Flower Mound meanwhile shot 46.3% (19 of 41).
Milton added 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Sandy Cortez, who sat out a good portion of the first half with an injury, scored 7 points to go with a team-high 9 rebounds.
No. 1 Decatur buries No. 2 Canyon
Bralyn Peck and Laken Coffman nearly outscored Canyon by themselves as Decatur knocked off the 20-time state champions 62-43 in the Class 4A Division I Region 1 Final on Friday night at Childress High School.
Decatur (35-4), No. 1 in the 4A state rankings according to the TABC, won the 4A DI state title last season. Decatur will play No. 14 Prosper Richland (35-4), which is in the state semifinals in its inaugural season.
Richland took down Frisco Panther Creek 60-41 on Thursday. Canyon, No. 2 in 4A, ends its season at 29-3.
Peck scored 21 points while Coffman added 18 as Decatur denied Canyon its 30th appearance in the UIL state semifinals.
No. 3 Brock rolls past No. 12 Lubbock Liberty
For the 23rd time in program history and first since 2018, Brock is headed to the UIL state semifinals after eliminating Lubbock Liberty 37-29 in the Class 4A Division II Region 1 Final on Friday night at Merkel High School.
Brock (31-5) extended its winning streak to 16 games. The Eagles are No. 3 in the TABC 4A state rankings while Liberty (30-5) was No. 12.
The Eagles will play the defending 4A DII champs, No. 5 Dallas Lincoln (27-8), in the state semifinals. Lincoln is in the semifinals for the third-straight season after defeating Paris North Lamar 62-33 on Friday.
Jacee Riddle beat the buzzer with a three-pointer to give Brock an 8-7 lead after the first quarter. The Eagles scored 13-straight points in the second and led 21-10 at the intermission.
Liberty only managed to get as close as seven points after halftime. Brock’s Laney Hudson led all players with 15 points.
No. 6 Paradise routs Valley View for a third time
Paradise earned its third win in three tries over district rival Valley View as the Panthers routed the Eagles for a third time 90-39 in the Class 3A Division II Region 2 Final on Friday at Denton High School.
Paradise (32-4), No. 6 in the state in Class 3A according to the TABC, moves on to the state semifinals and a date with top-ranked Wall (35-3) early next week. Wall defeated No. 2 Coahoma 56-42 on Friday.
Renlee Longenbaugh led the Panthers with 17 points and 5 steals with Allie McCormick dropping in 16 points. Hartley Barnes chipped in 13 points with a team-high 5 assists and Lainey Munden contributing 11 points.
Paradise had defeated Valley View in district play by 47 and 25 points before the meeting in the DII R2 Final.
