The Texas high school softball playoffs start on April 25.

Here are the things to know and seven teams to watch as Fort Worth-area teams prepare for the postseason.

Aledo, Birdville, Burleson Centennial continue dominance

Aledo, after a run to the state semifinals in 2024, has continued its dominance.

The Bearcats are 10-0 in District 5-5A and have a strong 22-2 overall record. Aledo has already clinched the District 5-5A title. As things stand, the Bearcats will take the district’s top spot into the Class 5A Division I bracket.

All three of the Bearcats’ losses have come against Class 6A schools: Mansfield Legacy, Denton Guyer and Waco Midway.

Aledo, ranked No. 12 by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, is on an eight-game winning streak and has won all of those games by seven or more runs. During this stretch, the offense is averaging 14 runs per game, while the pitchers and defense have secured eight consecutive shutouts.

Birdville, ranked No. 7 by the TGCA, is also having an extremely strong regular season.

The Hawks (22-3, 9-1) hold the No. 1 spot in District 6-5A. Birdville, with a larger enrollment than the other top district finishes, will take the district’s top spot into the Class 5A Division I bracket.

In 2024, Birdville lost to Aledo in the area round in a single-game elimination format. With both squads heading to the division I bracket, a rematch could be in store down the line.

Another team to watch is Burleson Centennial. The Spartans (21-6, 12-0) are unranked by the TGCA but hold the top spot in District 8-5A.

Along with Aledo and Birdville, Centennial will also head to the Class 5A Division 1 bracket. In 2024, Centennial was eliminated by Aledo in the regional finals.

Keller Softball leads the way in District 4-6A

Keller softball (20-6-1, 13-2) holds the top spot in District 4-6A and has already clinched the district championship.

In 2024, the Indians made it to the regional finals, where they fell to Denton Guyer. With a new split division playoff format, the path to the postseason will look different; as things stand, Keller will enter the Class 6A Division I bracket with the larger enrollment schools.

Keller, ranked No. 25 by the TGCA, is on a seven-game winning streak, which includes victories over Southlake Carroll and Byron Nelson.

Mansfield Legacy, Arlington look to secure top spots

When it comes to District 3-6A softball, Mansfield Legacy is the school to beat.

The Legacy Broncos (21-5, 11-0) are undefeated in district play and have clinched a district title. They are on an 11-game winning streak, and seven of those victories have come by 10 or more runs.

In District 8-6A, South Grand Prairie holds the top spot with an undefeated 11-0 district record.

Arlington is close behind and commands a second-place spot with a 9-3 record. As things stand, Arlington would take the No. 1 District 8-6A spot into the Class 6A Division II bracket. The Colts’ last three victories were by 10 or more runs.

Mansfield Legacy and Arlington are unranked by the TGCA.

Brock Softball: A championship favorite

Brock (23-0-2) has a huge target on its back in Class 4A softball.

The Brock Eagles, ranked No. 1 by the TGCA, are a championship favorite and have an undefeated record. With a smaller enrollment, Brock is set to take District 6-4A’s top spot into the Class 4A Division II bracket and is the only squad in the greater Fort Worth-area without a loss.
