Haltom 2019 dual-threat quarterback Michael Black was voted football offensive player of the week after his performance in Week 1 vs. Saginaw.

Black received 35 percent of the votes on Twitter and beat out Keller quarterback Sloan Henry (32 percent).

The 6-foot play-maker rushed for 259 yards on 15 carries with touchdown runs of 90 and 1 yards, and also completed 12-of-18 passes for 184 yards. Black had TD passes of 9, 25, 16, and 32 yards as the Buffalos defeated Saginaw 66-7.

Haltom is looking for a playoff spot in back-to-back seasons.

The Buffalos made the postseason in 2017, a first since 2009 and had their first winning season since 2000.

Black accounted for 2,731 yards and 30 touchdowns and earned all-state honors. He threw for 18 TDs, rushed for 12 scores and recorded five 100-yard rushing games.

He made visits to SMU, Baylor, Houston, Oklahoma State and Tulsa this summer.

Haltom (1-0) hosts FW Paschal (1-0) at Birdville Stadium, 7:30 p.m. Friday.
