Southlake Carroll 12, Plano 1
Three different Dragons recorded three RBIs and Carroll took care of the Wildcats in five innings during Game 1 at Air Hog Stadium in Grand Prairie.
Game 2 is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday back at Air Hog Stadium.
Carroll (25-6), ranked No. 10 in 6A, got out to an early 11-0 lead after scoring three runs in the first and second innings, and five in the third.
Cade Bell led the game off with a triple to left field and Adam Stephenson drove him in with a single. Three batters later and Will Quillen’s two-run double gave the Dragons a 3-0 lead.
Nik Millsap had his own two-run double in the second to extend the lead to 6-0 and Carroll scored all five runs in the third with two outs.
Kyle Warden limited Plano (19-12) to five hits and struck out three batters.
LD Bell 4, McKinney Boyd 0
Texas A&M commit Mason Ornelas shut down Boyd with a three hitter to lead the Blue Raiders to a Game 1 victory.
Game 2 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Plano John Paul.
Bell (20-9) scored twice in the third and fifth innings. Michael Bernhardt recorded both of Bell's RBIs on the night and Jack Tyson went 2 for 2 with both runs scored. Ornelas struck out four.
Boyd (16-15-1) pitcher Jack Hagan allowed four hits and struck out two.
Colleyville Heritage 13, Southwest 0
The Panthers, No. 2 in 5A, hit three home runs and Dallas Baptist commit Jakob Berger threw a two-hit shutout to dispatch the Raiders in five innings of Game 1 of their three-game series.
Game 2 is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Southwest.
Auburn commit Mason Greer recorded an RBI sac-fly in the first and Jacob Guerrero capped it off with a three-run home run.
Greer and Chandler Freeman each hit a two-run home run in the third.
Cole Brown added a two-run triple and Oklahoma commit Bobby Witt drove in two.
Southwest (9-17) loaded the bases in the first, but couldn't get a run across the plate. The Raiders left five on base.
Godley 12, Mineral Wells 0
Chase Lummus’ no-hitter propelled the No. 3 team in 4A to a Game 1 victory in five innings in Brock.
Game 2 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Brock.
Godley (22-1) scored three in the first, two in the second and four in the third.
Bobby Goodloe (TCU) went 4 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Brett Brown (Texas A&M) recorded two doubles and two RBIs. Tad Thompson also drove in two runs.
Mansfield 10, Odessa 9
The Tigers scored three times in the seventh, capped off by Kennedy Hardy's walk-off two-run double to beat Odessa in Game 1 of their best-of-three series.
Game 2 is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at Abilene Christian.
Mansfield (28-0-1) looked in control with a 5-1 lead after two and 5-3 lead after four, but Odessa (23-7-1) took the lead in the top of the fifth with six runs with two RBI doubles and an RBI triple.
Still trailing 9-5 in the bottom of the sixth, Hardy (Thomas University) drew a bases-loaded walk and Emilee Watkins' RBI single got the Tigers within two.
Mansfield loaded the bases in the seventh and got within 9-8 after an RBI sac fly by Paxton Scheurer (UNLV).
Brock 5, Merkel 3
The Eagles let a 4-0 lead stand in Game 1 of their three-game area round series at Hawley.
Game 2 is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Graford. If needed, Game 3 will follow.
Brock (26-5) scored three times during the first two innings thanks to an RBI single from Mattye Tyler (Lubbock Christian), RBI double from Anarenee Beyer and RBI triple from Jessica Leek.
Merkel put up three runs in the bottom of the sixth before Leek added another RBI in the top of the seventh.
Tyler allowed two hits and struck out 12.
