The UT Arlington women start a two-game road trip Thursday with revenge on the mind against Louisiana-Monroe. Tipoff at Fant-Ewing Coliseum is set for 5:15 p.m.
Monroe (6-10, 2-5 Sun Belt Conference) came into College Park Center on Jan. 5 and scored the game’s last 11 points to steal a 63-51 win. It’s part of a stretch in which the Mavericks (9-7, 3-4) have dropped four of their last five in conference play. That stretch continued Monday with a 60-53 home loss to Texas State.
“We need a game where we’re firing on all cylinders,” UTA coach Krista Gerlich said. “We’ve got to do a better job of helping each other score.”
While the Mavericks’ defense has been solid, allowing just over 53 points per game, the offense has been less consistent lately. UTA has averaged just over 57 points a game in its last eight.
Point guard LaShanda Green has picked up some of the slack in Sun Belt play as smaller teams have largely chosen to clog the paint against freshman center Rebekah Van Dijk. Green is scoring 12.1 points per game in the Mavs’ last seven games and has hit 16 of 30 3-pointers in the last five.
Monroe has won the last three meetings against UTA and leads the all-time series 33-20.
