UT Arlington suffered a setback Monday night, but returning home to College Park Center might be just what the Mavericks need.
UTA will host UL Monroe at 7:15 Thursday night, having won five straight at home.
In Monday’s loss at Troy, junior guard Johnny Hill posted his best game as a Maverick with 19 points and seven rebounds. But that didn’t help in the final three minutes when UTA let Troy go on a 9-0 run to close out a 71-66 win.
Considering there’s only one 3-0 team in the Sun Belt (UL Lafayette), the Mavericks (8-5, 2-1) are still right where they need to be.
They’ll need to start playing better defense after allowing their last two opponents to shoot better than 52 percent from the field.
UTA survived South Alabama on Saturday by opening with a 15-2 run and never looking back, but Troy shot 68 percent in the second half Monday to pull away late.
While UTA’s defense is sputtering, ULM never trailed in Monday’s 70-61 win over Arkansas State.
ULM leads the Sun Belt in defensive field goal percent but hasn’t won away from home since the Nov. 15 opener at UAB.
