North Texas men stay hot, sink Indiana State on road

Senior guard Jorden Duffy was cooking from deep, knocking down five 3-pointers to score a season-high 23 points to lead North Texas over Indiana State 80-69 on Wednesday night in a nonconference men’s basketball game at Hulman Center in Terre Haute, Indiana.

UNT (9-1) jumped out the gates quickly, going on an 8-0 run. Roosevelt Smart scored a layup late in the first half to put UNT up 32-22.

Smart paced the Mean Green offensively in the first half, scoring 11 points with three rebounds as UNT took a 39-26 halftime lead.

Indiana State (5-2) closed the gap with a 11-2 run to narrow the lead to 72-64 with 3:26 remaining in the game.

Duffy connected on four clutch free throws in the final two minutes to help seal the victory.

Ryan Woolridge, a junior from Mansfield Lake Ridge, finished with a triple-double (12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists) while playing 38 minutes for UNT.

The Mean Green shot 48 percent from the field and 90 percent from the free-throw line.

Up next, UNT travels to New Mexico to take on the Lobos on Tuesday with an 8 p.m. tip-off.
