Senior Rebekah VanDijk scored 21 points but her game-high eight rebounds were the night's story as she became the Lady Mavericks' all-time rebounding leader in Thursday's 80-53 win at Louisiana-Monroe.
VanDijk, a 6-foot-5 center from Nazareth, passed Lori Cottington's record that had stood since 1979. With four game left in the regular season, VanDijk has 1,080 career rebounds.
VanDijk's 21 points led four UTA scorers in double figures as Crystal Allen had 14 points, Shelby Richards 11 and Daiane Machado 10. UTA (15-10, 9-5 Sun Belt) won its fourth game in a row as ULM (4-20, 1-12) was limited to nine points in each of the third and fourth quarters.
UTA shot 50 percent from the field while Louisiana-Monroe finished at 37.5 percent.
Louisiana Monroe 84, UTA 71
UT Arlington wasted another huge scoring night from senior guard Erick Neal in an 84-71 road loss to Louisiana-Monroe in Sun Belt basketball play Thursday.
Neal scored a game-high 35 points, including a 9-of-12 performance on 3-point attempts, in a game that was tightly contested throughout the first half but rarely in the second.
The Mavericks fall to 16-11 overall and 7-7 in league play. ULM is 12-12 and 6-7.
