Kevin Hervey’s double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds wasn’t enough to hold off No. 25 Creighton as the UT Arlington men’s basketball team fell 90-81 Monday night at CenturyLink Center Omaha.

Hervey’s secured his program-record 30th double-double of his career, surpassing Paul Renfro (1976-80).

Down by 20 at the half, the Mavericks (8-4) erupted for a 49-point second half half to pull within striking distance of the BlueJays (9-2), but it was the 32 point effort of Wichita Falls native Marcus Foster for Creighton that kept UT Arlington out of reach.

Senior Kaelon Wilson found his way into double figure scoring for the fourth consecutive game, finishing with 15 points. Erick Neal added nine points and eight assists off the bench.

UTA’s slow start proved too much to overcome in the end. The Mavericks trailed 17-16 midway through the first half before Creighton went on a 9-0 run to grab a 26-16 lead. The Bluejays stretched their advantage to 48-32 behind a 7-0 run and took a 52-32 lead into halftime.

UT Arlington returns home to College Park Center on Thursday to face Cal Poly for a 7 p.m. ti-poff.
