Fan Spotlight: “The Big Nut”

Jon “The Big Nut” Peters

Hometown: Fremont, Ohio

Rooting interest: The Ohio State University. Jon has dressed up in an elaborate Ohio State costume for games since 2002.

Peters and his fellow crazily dressed cohorts founded a nonprofit that provides scholarships to seniors in Fremont who want to attend Ohio State.

“Big Nut exemplifies the Buckeye Nation as we are all a big nut about Ohio State. Scarlet and gray, that’s how we roll. We have a lot of fun doing what we do,” Peters said.

Peters came to the Playoff Fan Central on Saturday with plenty of extra buckeye nuts to hand out to any wandering fan who might want one.

First thing accomplished in the Metroplex? Whataburger. “In Ohio, we didn’t have a Whataburger. We’ve heard a lot about them and it was good.”

Peters said he likes the Buckeyes’ chances in the title game despite Ohio State being a sizeable underdog, as was the case in the 2002 BCS championship game when Miami was a double-digit favorite against the Buckeyes.

“They’re not double-digit here against the Oregon Ducks, but they’re still an underdog and they play well as an underdog,” Peters said. — Travis L. Brown
