Some observations while watching the gridiron journey of America’s football student-athletes over the long weekend:
For the powers that be among the Big 12’s chief priests, that the Big 12’s “One True Champion” — Oklahoma — will almost certainly be among the CFP’s participants is a prayer answered. So, too, was a Notre Dame loss.
The lone mystery left this week is one that has lingered since October: How did the Sooners lose to Texas at the State Fair? No one will ever know.
It’s not true that a movie titled My All-American: Chris Warren’s Game Against Texas Tech is in production. With 276 yards rushing, the son of the former NFL star will be looking forward to the next three games against the Red Raiders.

Baylor is the only team in the nation to score on its first drive in every game this season, including 11 touchdowns. It was the last drive on Friday, though, that counted the most.
Iowa State is turning to a former Division III star to bring its program up to Division I — FBS — standards. At Mount Union, Matt Campbell helped spearhead three D-III national titles as an All-America defensive lineman from 2000-02.
