Some observations while watching the gridiron journey Saturday of America’s football student-athletes:
Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads has a future as an analyst. For example, this spot-on observation after the Cyclones defeated Texas: “I don’t know how this comes across, but I’ll say it anyway. We shouldn’t beat Texas, probably.”
Iowa State recorded its first shutout since Nov. 23, 2013, and everybody who first reads that assumes a typo and that it should read 1913.
It’s a safe assumption that Oklahoma, deep inside, is the living and breathing example of regret and now consumed with the prospects of making TCU and Baylor (and the Big 12) swallow the same bitter pill.
Texas Tech’s once high hopes have been devoured by a defense that yielded a school-record number of points to Oklahoma State while blowing a 14-point lead on Saturday. The Red Raiders (5-4) are now fighting for something other than Dog’s Breakfast Bowl with three to play.
The Duke-Miami ACC officiating crew has given every sports enthusiast with a computer and a Twitter account a renewed confidence that his opinion about officiating is … correct. Duh.
