Officials at the Cotton Bowl Classic said Wednesday that AT&T will no longer serve as the title sponsor for their postseason game in Arlington, in part because the venue for the contest already bears the sponsor’s name. Officials already are in discussion with a replacement title sponsor and expect to have that organization’s name on the contest well before this season’s game is played Jan. 1.
“We are very excited about the future and our new title sponsor that we plan to announce in the coming weeks,” Rick Baker, Cotton Bowl president/CEO, said in a prepared statement. “The Cotton Bowl Classic would not be where it is today without AT&T’s staunch support. … Even though our partnership is changing, I’m proud to say AT&T will remain a major partner of the Cotton Bowl Classic.”
Multiple sources with knowledge of the situation have identified Goodyear as a potential replacement sponsor. But Cotton Bowl officials said no announcement is imminent. AT&T has held naming rights to the Cotton Bowl Classic since 2007.
