It’s camp season, and for TCU’s first satellite stop, the Horned Frogs’ coaching staff went to where they’ve had the most recruiting success this spring: Houston.

Manvel, specifically, where prospects — including TCU commit D’Eriq King — worked out under Gary Patterson, Sonny Cumbie and others on Thursday. Today, TCU will be in Katy, another key Houston suburb.

While Patterson has made a point to recruit heavily in Dallas-Fort Worth (he signed 11 area players in February), his staff has also increased efforts four hours down the road.

Five TCU’s top six 2016 commitments, according to the 247 Sports Composite rating, are from the Houston area. That includes running back Trayveon Williams, who committed to TCU on May 29. Williams is a Composite 4-star and ranked 288th overall in the country.

Here’s a rundown of the Frogs’ other Houston-area commits, with their 247 Sports profiles linked:

Courtney Lark, WR, Houston Bellaire

Selo Olonilua, ATH, Humble Kingwood

Austin Myers, OL, Manvel

D’Eriq King, ATH, Manvel

Clifton Lewis, LB, Fort Bend Hightower

In addition to Lewis’ and Williams’ commitments last week, TCU also got pledges from junior college receiver Taj Williams and Lexington (Okla.) offensive lineman Tyler Brown.

Elite 11 info

The Elite 11 semifinals start Saturday in California. Arlington Lamar’s Shane Buechele and Mansfield Lake Ridge’s Jett Duffey were two of 30 quarterbacks to earn invitations to the national quarterback competition, which will be streamed Saturday (noon-6 p.m.) and Sunday (12:30 p.m.-4 p.m.) on TCU commit D’Eriq King will also be competing.

Quick hits

Southlake Carroll running back Lil’Jordan Humphrey, who holds offers from Ole Miss, Texas and others, earned an invitation this week to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Southlake Carroll defensive back Obi Eboh received three more offers this week: Arkansas, Oklahoma and Cal.

Colleyville Heritage 2016 defensive back Reid Harrison-Ducros is visiting Louisiana-Monroe this weekend. He holds an offer from the Warhawks.

Kennedale 2017 linebacker Baron Browning is visiting Alabama this weekend, and an offer seems likely. The 247 Sports 5-star received offers from TCU and Florida State this week. Looked like the Frogs followed up with a creative photo edit of Browning’s visit last weekend.

Fort Worth All Saints 2016 defensive tackle Mike Williams talked with Texas defensive coordinator Vance Bedford and recruiting coordinator Brian Jean-Mary earlier this week. Williams, who holds more than 40 offers, appears to be a top target for the Longhorns, who have a bit of uncertainty at the defensive tackle position with signee Du’Vonta Lampkin’s status up in the air.

Aledo 2017 offensive guard Wes Harris — a recent TCU commit — received an offer from Texas A&M.
