Baker Mayfield has to eat some crow.

The ex-Oklahoma quarterback usually gets what he wants, so the current Cleveland Browns starter naturally spent the lead-up to the Red River Showdown mocking Texas.

But head coach Tom Herman, quarterback Sam Ehlinger and the rest and the Longhorns had other plans.

In a win capped by a late field goal off the leg of freshman kicker Cameron Dicker, Texas dropped 45 points in the first three quarters and staved off a late rally by Kyler Murray and the Sooners to knock off the Longhorns’ No. 7-ranked rival.

Current and former players gave Mayfield a taste of his own medicine on social media after the game.

Even former Texas star and current Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant got in on the action.

The Texas Longhorns took a significant step Saturday in winning the Red River Showdown over Oklahoma. It begged the question whether Texas is back.

Texas WR Lil'Jordan Humphrey made the play of the game, coach Tom Herman said after the Longhorns' victory over Oklahoma. Humphrey gained yards after contact multiple times against the Sooners.
