Alan Bowman is tough.

Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury handed the former Grapevine High School football standout the keys to the Red Raiders’ high-flying offense when former starter McLane Carter went down with an ankle injury.

Since then, Bowman has lead his team to a 3-2 record, which includes a big win over then-No. 15 Oklahoma State in Stillwater.

But during his team’s 42-34 loss to No. 12 West Virginia last Saturday, Bowman sustained a hit that resulted in a partially collapsed lung.

On Wednesday, Kingsbury stated that he expects Bowman to “rejoin us on the field soon.”

Bowman, meanwhile, said in a statement released by Texas Tech that he anticipates returning to the team on Thursday.

It’s possible that despite the serious nature of the injury, Bowman could return in time to start under center when the Red Raiders visit Gary Patterson and TCU next week.

The Red Raiders and Horned Frogs will play at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 at Amon G. Carter Stadium in a game that will air on ESPN.
