Texas took advantage of four TCU errors to win 4-3 and snap the Horned Frogs’ winning streak at five in the opener of a Big 12 baseball series Thursday night in Austin.
The Longhorns (10-12, 1-0 Big 12) pushed across runs in the second and third innings to grab a 2-0 lead off TCU freshman starter Luken Baker. Two TCU errors in the third proved costly, and Tres Barrera scored on a one-out single by Patrick Mathis.
TCU (17-4, 3-1) answered with three runs in the fourth as Evan Skoug hit a three-run home run to right field to give the Frogs a 3-2 lead. Austen Wade led off with a walk and moved to third on Connor Wanhanen’s single up the middle to set the stage for Skoug’s blast.
Texas chased Baker (2-1) with a two-run fifth to take a 4-3 lead. Kody Clemens led off with a single and went to second on Barrera’s sacrifice bunt. Mathis then launched a two-run homer to right-center off Baker, who was pulled with two outs in the fifth in favor of Jared Janczak.

Baker gave up four runs, three earned on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings. Janczak finished in relief, allowing only two hits with seven strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.
Six UT pitchers combined to give up seven hits.
The teams meet again at 6 p.m. Friday in the second of a three-game series.
