Tennessee, SMU highlight TCU men’s nonconference basketball schedule
The TCU men’s basketball team has home dates scheduled against Tennessee — as part of the annual Big 12/SEC Challenge — and ranked rival SMU as well as a Thanksgiving tournament in Cancun, Mexico, on their non-conference schedule.
The Horned Frogs have 13 nonconference games, including nine at home. Five of those games will be against teams that made postseason tournaments.
TCU’s annual Purple and White game will open the home offerings at the newly renovated Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena.
The regular season opens Friday, Nov. 13, against Southeastern Louisiana followed by a Nov. 19 game against Houston Baptist and South Dakota State on Nov. 21.
The Frogs are in Cancun on Nov. 24 against Rhode Island and the following night against either Maryland or Illinois State before returning home to host SMU on Dec. 2 and Colgate on Dec. 5.
Road games Dec. 8 at Washington and Dec. 23 at Bradley sandwich home games with Prairie View A&M on Dec. 11 and Abilene Christian on Dec. 20.
TCU ends its nonconference schedule with games Dec. 28 against Delaware State and Jan. 30 against Tennessee in the Big 12/SEC Challenge, a series in which TCU is 2-0 with wins over Mississippi State and Ole Miss.

▪ Oklahoma football: Kenyon Frison, a 6-foot-6, 289-pound freshman offensive lineman from Utah, was suspended indefinitely for violating team rules.
▪ Texas A&M football: Freshman running back Jay Bradford of Splendora was left off the Aggies’ roster because of undisclosed health concerns.
▪ Maryland football: One-time Southlake Carroll quarterback Daxx Garman, a transfer from Oklahoma State, is in competition with returning backups Caleb Rowe and Perry Hills for the Terrapins’ starting quarterback job.
▪ Oregon football: Running back Thomas Tyner is expected to miss the season after having surgery on his left shoulder. Tyner had nearly 600 yards in 11 games as a backup last year.
▪ Pittsburgh football: Receiver Tyler Boyd and defensive lineman Rori Blair will miss the Sept. 5 opener against Youngstown State after each was arrested for DUI offenses this summer.
▪ Utah football: Cornerback Dominique Hatfield, dismissed from the team last month after being charged with aggravated robbery and theft, was cleared to return to school after the charges were dismissed. His status on the team will be evaluated later.
▪ Auburn football: Receiver D’haquille Williams missed a third straight day of practice and remains suspended for an undisclosed disciplinary issue
▪ Colorado football: Defensive end Tyler Hennington, who missed all of 2014 after tearing knee ligaments, will miss all of 2015 after breaking his ankle and fibula when he stepped in a hole.
