TCU senior Simona Parajova advanced to the second round of the NCAA Women’s Singles Championships, while TCU freshmen Cameron Norrie and Guillermo Nunez reached the second round on the men’s side on Wednesday in Waco.

Parajova, making her first appearance in the NCAA individual championships, defeated No. 55 Lauren Marker of Arizona 6-2, 6-3 and will face No. 7 Jamie Loeb of North Carolina on Thursday.

“Simona calmed down after the first two games and was her typical self,” coach Lee Taylor Walker said. “She’s one of the best movers and ball-strikers in the tournament and that makes her very dangerous.

“A lot of people don’t realize that the only match Simona has lost this [spring] is against Danielle Collins, who was last year’s NCAA Champion. Her other loss to Kyle McPhillips this spring was a retire due to sickness.”

No. 39-ranked Norrie defeated No. 48 Sam Shropshire of Northwestern 6-4, 6-3 in the morning, and Nunez rallied from a set down for a 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-2 victory over Georgia’s Wayne Montgomery, ranked 24th. TCU senior Nick Chappell, No. 49, lost to No. 28-ranked Ronnie Schneider of North Carolina 6-2, 7-5
