TCU opened the Big 12 tournament with a 12-2, run-rule win against Texas Tech in seven innings at Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City on Wednesday night.
The sixth-seeded Horned Frogs (31-22) advanced to play No. 7 seed West Virginia (28-25) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Mountaineers beat No. 2 seed Oklahoma State, 8-5, earlier on Wednesday.
For the first time, all four lower seeds beat the higher seed in Wednesday's opening day action of the double-elimination tournament.
No. 8 Kansas beat top seed Texas 3-2, and No. 5 Baylor beat No. 4 Oklahoma 4-0 in the tournament opener.
No. 3 Texas Tech (38-16) plays Oklahoma State at 12:30 p.m. in the loser's bracket.
TCU's game started almost two hours behind schedule after the first three games went long. The game started at 9:25 p..m. and ended after seven innings per the tournament's 10-run rule at about 12:25 a.m. Thursday.
TCU opened up a 9-0 lead in the first five innings against the Red Raiders. Texas Tech pitchers walked 14 batters.
The Frogs scored six runs in the second inning, including four runs against starting pitcher Ryan Sublette, who was replaced without recording an out in the second inning. He allowed just one hit but walked five, including a bases-loaded walk to Adam Oviedo that pushed across the first run. Conner Shepherd's two-run single made it 3-0, and A.J. Balta's bases-clearing double to left-center field made it 6-0.
Michael Landestoy's two-run single in the fourth gave the Frogs an 8-0 lead.
TCU starter Nick Lodolo allowed two runs on seven hits and four walks over 4 2/3 innings and earned the win to improve to 7-4. Charles King added two innings of scoreless relief.
