College notes: TCU women surge to second in Big 12 golf

Kortnie Maxoutopoulis shot a career-best 68 to lead a final-round surge on Sunday that saw TCU finish second at the Big 12 Championship in San Antonio.

TCU’s even-par 288 was the best round of the day.

The Horned Frogs have finished first or second in 14 of their past 18 conference tournaments covering four different leagues (WAC, Conference USA, Mountain West and Big 12).

With a 15-over 879, the Horned Frogs were 12 shots behind Baylor.

Maxoutopoulis finished third with a 2-under 214, just two strokes behind leaders Kenzie Neisen of Oklahoma State and Baylor’s Laura Lonardi. It was the third time in the past four tournaments that Maxoutopoulis recorded the best finish of her three-year TCU career.

TCU is hoping to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Regionals. The bids will be announced at 6 tonight on the Golf Channel.
