TCU scored on a balk, a wild pitch, a catcher’s interference and a walk before the bats came alive in the ninth inning of an 8-0 victory over Texas Tech at Rip Griffin Park in the first of a three-game Big 12 series in Lubbock.
The No. 2-ranked Frogs (22-5, 5-2 Big 12) took a 1-0 lead in the fifth when Garrett Crain scored on a balk by Tech starter Ryan Mosley (2-3). Connor Wanhanen scored on a wild pitch to put TCU up 2-0 in the eighth against No. 24 Texas Tech (18-12, 3-4).
In the ninth, Keaton Jones scored on catcher’s interference, and Cody Jones walked with the bases loaded before Wanhanen and Evan Skoug tacked on two-run singles.
TCU starter Mitchell Traver (5-0) scattered five hits over six shutout innings. Trey Teakell and Brain Howard didn’t allow a hit in relief.
