Oklahoma cornerback Zack Sanchez, a Keller Central graduate, will begin his NFL career with one of last year’s Super Bowl teams.
Sanchez, who made 134 tackles, had 28 pass breakups and intercepted 15 passes in three seasons as a starter for the Sooners, went to the Carolina Panthers with the second pick of the fifth round. He made 37 starts in his college career and was a key figure on a defense that led Oklahoma to last year’s Big 12 championship as well as a berth in last year’s College Football Playoff.
Sanchez plays cornerback, the same position as former Panthers’ standout Josh Norman, who signed earlier this month as a free agent with the Washington Redskins.
