Texas State hands UT Arlington baseball 10th consecutive loss

The UT Arlington baseball team could not recover from an early deficit, falling to Texas State 8-2 Saturday as the Bobcats swept the three-game series at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington.

Texas State (28-26-1, 16-14 Sun Belt) scored four runs in the first two innings off UTA starter Reid Petty (1-4), who struck out three and walked one in 1 2/3 innings.

The Bobcats tacked on three unearned runs in the seventh to grab a commanding 7-1 lead.

RJ Williams led UTA (21-33, 11-19) by going 3-for-4, including a double. Josh Minjarez went 2-for-4 for the Mavericks, who finished with nine hits.

UTA next opens play in the Sun Belt Conference tournament in Lafayette, Louisiana, on Tuesday against an opponent to be determined.

The Mavericks have lost 10 consecutive games.
