UTA baseball swept at home by Appalachian State

The UT Arlington baseball team could not recover from an early 2-0 deficit before falling 6-4 Sunday afternoon as Appalachian State swept the three-game series at Clay Gould Park.

UTA (21-21, 11-13 Sun Belt) managed only five runs in the series after losing 5-0 and 2-1 Saturday.

Christian Hollie, a former standout at Keller Fossil Ridge, crushed his fourth home run of the season Sunday and had two hits. Boone Montgomery (Grapevine) went 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Will Sprinkle picked up the victory for Appalachian State (15-31, 6-17), giving up four runs on nine hits in seven innings.

Jordon West (2-2) made his first start of the season for UTA and pitched five-plus innings, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out five.

The Mavericks look to bounce back Friday at 6:30 p.m. when they open a three-game series at South Alabama in Mobile.
