Louisiana Monroe sweeps UTA in Sun Belt twin bill

Louisiana Monroe swept UT Arlington in a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader Saturday, coming from behind in both games.

ULM (15-14, 5-7) erased a 5-0 UTA lead with three runs in the fifth and three in the second to win the second game 7-5.

UTA pitchers Joel Kuhnel and Kyle Laberge gave up 14 hits, but only three of ULM’s seven runs were earned. UTA (14-16, 5-7) committed three errors.

Travis Sibley, who was 3 for 8 in the doubleheader, keyed the Mavericks’ five-run second inning with a two-run single.

In the first game, ULM scored single runs in the eighth and ninth to win 2-1.

UTA freshman starter Brad Vassar pitched 6 1/3 innings of shutout ball, giving up four hits. But ULM won with an RBI single in the eighth and a walk-off sacrifice fly in the ninth against relief pitcher Daniel James.
