UTA comes back twice to top Abilene Christian

UT Arlington’s top three batters in the order combined to go 8 for 13 with five RBIs as the Mavericks defeated Abilene Christian 7-5 on Wednesday night at Clay Gould Ballpark.

Leadoff hitter Matt McLean was 3 for 4, Eric Tate was 2 for 5 and No. 3 hitter Levi Scott was 3 for 4 with three RBIs.

The Mavericks (7-6) tied the game with a three-run third inning. With two outs, No. 9 hitter Christian Hollie doubled to left field. McLean singled in Hollie and Tate followed with a single. Scott doubled to score both runners.

Abilene Christian (1-11) scored twice in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead. But UTA scored once in the fifth and three in the seventh for the victory.

In the bottom of the seventh, Scott started the one-out rally with a single. After two walks, a groundout scored Scott then Travis Sibley singled in the tiebreaking runs with two outs.

UTA’s seventh pitcher of the game, Colin Tornberg, struck out the side in the ninth for the save.
