Shelbi Sikes had game-winning hits in both games to help UT Arlington sweep a nonconference doubleheader against visiting Cleveland State on Thursday.
In Game 1, a 4-3 victory victory, Sikes doubled in Mallory Foster to highlight a two-run eighth inning. Foster tied the game with an RBI single, setting up Sikes’ game-winner.
In Game 2, Sikes launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Cy’Andria Walker to give the Mavericks a 9-7 victory. Walker pinch ran for Britnea Barilli, who had walked.
“It feels pretty great,” Sikes said. “I haven’t been doing the best at the plate this year so the Past couple weekends I have been focusing on doing my part and whatever I can do, score runs and generate for this team. I think it’s finally starting to pay off.”

The two victories upped UTA’s record to 21-2.
▪ In tennis, the Mavericks swept swept visiting UMBC, with the men’s and women’s teams each winning 4-0.
The women’s team improved to 9-2 and reached a 20-match home winning streak dating back to the beginning of the 2015 season.
The men are 13-7 overall after grabbing their ninth victory of the year at home.
