The UT Arlington baseball team stranded 13 runners, and Arkansas State avoided a three-game sweep with a 4-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Bryan Ayers (2-1) scattered six hits over six shutout innings to earn the victory for the Red Wolves (8-7, 1-2 Sun Belt). Austin Gardner (1-1) took the loss for UTA (10-7, 2-1) after allowing three runs in the first inning.
“I thought their starter did a good job,” Mavericks coach Darin Thomas told UTAMavs.com. “It’s like what we talk about all the time — get the early lead. And that three in the first was all they needed.”
Joe Schrimpf had a two-run single in the first, and Matt Burgess and Jake Bakamus each added an RBI for Arkansas State.
