UT Arlington uses big 1st inning to secure series win over A&M-CC

UT Arlington erupted for nine runs in the first inning Sunday and cruised past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a 10-4 victory that clinched the four-game series at Clay Gould Ballpark.

Designated hitter Christian Hollie finished with three hits and a team-high four RBIs for the Mavericks, who sent 13 batters to the plate in the first. UTA (8-5) forced the Islanders (5-7) to use three pitchers before getting out of the frame.

Sophomore Brad Vassar picked up his first victory of the season, tossing four innings of shutout relief with three strikeouts and just three hits allowed.

Left fielder Quintin Rohrbaugh had three hits — his third straight three-hit game — to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. First baseman Brady Cox and second baseman Darien McLemore each added a pair of hits and an RBI for the Mavericks.

The Mavericks will travel to Fort Worth on Tuesday for a game against TCU (9-2). UTA will begin Sun Belt play Friday at home against Arkansas State.
