UTA softball team improves to 18-0

UT Arlington improved the best start in school softball history to 18-0 as freshman Samantha Clakley (8-0) pitched a three-hit shutout to beat host Southeastern Louisiana 5-0 and complete a three-game weekend sweep.

UTA hosts No. 24 Texas at 6 p.m. Friday.

Rebecca Stokes hit a two-run home run in the seventh. Laura Curry was 2 for 3 for UTA.

TCU tennis sweeps

The No. 3 TCU men’s tennis team swept UCF 7-0 Sunday afternoon in Orlando, Fla.

The Horned Frogs (10-2) won all three doubles matches and all six singles matches over the Knights (4-7).

Alex Rybakov and Guillermo Nuñez scored the first win in doubles, winning 6-1. In singles, No 24-ranked Rybakov won at No. 1 in three sets and No. 49 Nuñez clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 victory.

All-Big 12

Tubby Smith of Texas Tech was voted Coach of the Year by his peers.

Buddy Hield of Oklahoma was recognized as the Player of the Year and Prince Ibeh of Texas was the top defensive player.

North Texas softball: UNT (13-6) went 5-0 at the Mean Green Spring Fling, beating Nicholls State 3-2 and Houston Baptist 15-1 (run-rule). Junior shortstop Kelli Schkade extended her school-record hit streak to 19 games
